Course Learning Outcomes (CLOs)

1. Understand the key concepts, architecture, and operation of cloud computing, including its core components and deployment models.
2. Learn to utilize and manage various cloud services (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS) to improve business efficiency, optimize costs, and ensure data security and service monitoring.
3. Develop the skills to plan, migrate, and implement cloud-based solutions effectively using appropriate tools and best practices.

Course Outline

Unit I: Computing Paradigms

Client-Server, Peer-to-Peer, Distributed, and Collaborative Computing. Cloud Computing Basics: definition, functioning, and key characteristics, cloud architecture, cloud storage concepts, overview of cloud services and industrial applications.

Unit II: Cloud Service Models

Infrastructure (IaaS), Platform (PaaS), Software (SaaS), Deployment Models (Public, Private, Hybrid, Community Clouds), massively scaled SaaS, business benefits: scale of economy and value creation, introduction to cloud service management and governance.

Unit III: Cloud Service Management and Governance

Service Level Agreements (SLAs), performance monitoring, resource management, cloud security fundamentals, IT governance, performance and accounting services, handling software dependencies.

Unit IV: Cloud Migration and Emerging Computing Models

Introduction to cloud migration: concepts, objectives, and why organizations move to the cloud. Common cloud migration strategies. Cloud services for different users: individuals, SMBs, enterprises. Migration tools and techniques, challenges and considerations. Overview: serverless computing, fog/edge computing.
