Course Learning Outcomes (CLOs)

  1. Explain the fundamental components of Internet architecture, including protocols, domain name systems and web servers.
  2. Demonstrate the ability to configure basic networking protocols such as TCP/IP, HTTP, and DNS to establish a working network environment.
  3. Apply Internet technologies to build and deploy web applications, incorporating client-server models and web hosting principles.
  4. Analyze security risks in Internet communication and prepare strategies to protect networks from common threats like malware and phishing.

Course Outline

Unit I: Overview of the Internet

Definition and history of the Internet. Internet architecture: clients, servers, and service providers. Internet protocols and standards (TCP/IP, HTTP, FTP). History of internet, the early years, the global Internet, a global information infrastructure, browsing the World Wide Web (WWW).

Unit II: Web Technologies

Understanding web browsers and web servers. Internet Services: email services, FTP, and file sharing. Web hosting and domain registration. Basics of HTML, web page design with HTML, features and importance of HTML. Advanced web technologies. CSS: styling and layout techniques, including responsive web design.

Unit III: JavaScript

Basics of JavaScript programming. Basic data types; control structures; standard functions; arrays and objects; event driven programming in JavaScript.

Unit IV: Backend Programming

Introduction to back-end frameworks (e.g., Node.js, Express). Foundation of backend programming using PHP & MySQL.
