Course Learning Outcomes (CLOs)

  1. Understand the principles and process of effective communication and overcome common barriers.
  2. Develop professional writing and speaking skills for interviews, presentations, and business correspondence.
  3. Demonstrate confidence and clarity in public speaking through group discussions, debates, and extempore sessions.
  4. Enhance personality traits, emotional stability, and professional etiquette for overall personality development.
  5. Apply memory and mental training techniques for improved focus and performance.

Course Outline

Unit I: Professional Communication Skills

Communication: meaning, importance, and process, objectives of communication, effective communication, means/media and types of communication, channels of communication, barriers to communication, voice training, importance of feedback. Interview, report writing, speeches and presentations, documentation.

Unit II: Oral Communication and Business Correspondence

Preparation of extempore speech: group discussion, debates, declamation, stage confidence. Business Correspondence: definition, importance, business letters: essential features, parts and layout, types (purchase order, enquiry, quotation, acceptance, refusal, follow up, cancellation letters).

Unit III: Personality Development

Types of personality, dynamics of personality, personality traits, influences on personality, personality analysis through body language and individual habits, physical aspects of personality, emotional stability.

Unit IV: Memory Training and Art of Living

Mind and mental development, mental blocks, manners and art of living.
